Monitoring Equipment

ESC 8832 Data Logger. Collects 1 minute and hourly data from all parameters being monitored. Data is stored to memory and down loaded by Victoria BCMOE on an hourly basis. The 8832 is also used to remotely initiate daily span/zero sequences used to check analyzer performance.

The 910A Air Sampler Monitors. VOC-Vaccuum Canister Sampler.
Aethelometer. An instrument that provides a real-time readout of the concentration of ‘Black’ or ‘Elemental’ carbon aerosol particles in an airstream. The Aethelometer collects the sample on a quartz fibre filter tape, and performs a continuous optical analysis, while the sample is collecting.
API100A/E Analyzer. The API 100A and 100E models are SO2 analyzers that use chopped UV light to excite SO2 molecules which are picked up by a sensitive photo multiplier tube and translated from a voltage to a concentration in parts per billion or parts per million. When a thermal oxidizer and SOx scrubber are plumbed in to the 100A or E analyzer it becomes a H2S or TRS analyzer depending on the temperature the oxidizer is running at. Ambient air is passed through the SO2 scrubber and through a quartz tube heated to approximately 850 degrees C. This causes the TRS molecule to convert one to one to a SO2 molecule which is then scaled by the analyzer thus giving an accurate reading of the Total Reduced Sulpher (TRS).
This is the canister for the VOC on number two. This sampler supplies ambient air to a vacuum cannister which is cleaned and preped by a lab before sampling. Vacuum cannister is removed and sent back to the lab for analysis of levels of Volitile Organic Compounds.
TECO NOx Analyzer. Model 42C NO-NO2-NOx analyzer uses Chemiluminescence to provide levels of nitric oxides in ambient air.
PM 2.5 Teom. Monitors ambient air for particulate matter (PM) from 2.5 microns to 10 microns in diameter depending on the type of cyclonic sampling heads being used on the instrument. TEOM stands for Tapered Element Oscillating Microbalance and was originally designed to weigh matter in space were there is no gravity. A filter is attached to the end of the oscillating element which has ambient air flowing over it. As particulate builds on the filter it changes the oscillation which the instrument calculates as mass in micrograms per cubic meter.
API 400A Ozone Analyzer. This analyzer uses ultraviolet (UV) photometric’s to determine levels of Ozone in ambient air and provides continuous 1 minute data for collection.
P.M. 10 and P.M. 2.5 Chart recorder. Records data using ink pen and time controlled chart paper. Used as a back up for data being polled by 8832 data logger and as a visual assessment of analyzer performance.
NOx Chart recorder.
2300 Speciation Sampler. The Partisol® Model 2300 Speciation Sampler is a 4- or 12-channel sampling platform for particulate matter-related and gaseous species. The unit is designed to house R&P.s ChemCombTM Speciation Sampling Cartridges developed by Harvard University. Sampling cartridges are prepared by lab, sent to opperator, sampled and returned to lab for analysis.
2025 Sequential Dichot. Sample filters are conditioned and pre-weighed to MOE standards. Filters are taken to the field and installed in the Dichot. The operator can then program the Dichot to sample ambient air for 24 hour periods on prescribed dates. The sampled filters are picked up and shipped to the lab were they are conditioned again and re-weighed. The difference in weight  is the particulate that was deposited on the filter during sampling. This sampler provides two filters per 24 hour sample, one PM2.5 and one PM10 using controlled flow and cyclonic samplig heads.
